Marketing is an intense subject. Marketing is not simply advertising, it encompasses the entire business
entity, from idea, through creation, to the store shelves, and finally, into the consumer's hands.
It involves finance, management, distribution, promotion, pricing, and many other aspects of business. As
such, it is important for students to have a basic understanding of economics and how the average consumer
thinks. As a side note, I really enjoy the study of marketing and consumer behavior, and I hope to impart
some of that enthusiasm to my students.
The following is a list of the in-class powerpoints, this list will be updated throughout the year, and is
also available on my O'Hara teacher page.
There will be at least one major class project per quarter. In the first quarter students completed a research paper
based on world economies. The purpose of this project wass partially to help students realize the interdependence of
all academic subjects. In the second quarter, students completed a market research project, with the goal of
better marketing a product toward high school students. The third quarter will find the students completing
a series of advertisements. In the fourth quarter students will be creating a new, unique product and
completing an entire marketing plan, encompassing all aspects of marketing that have been discussed in class
for the year.
